Good evening,

I'm new to this group, after 6 months of tests and scans I have been diagnosed with head and neck cancer.

My world has been turned upside down,   iam lucky that the prognosis is very positive.

2 weeks prior to receiving My diagnosis I  resigned from by job and was due to start a new job, having cut my ties with my previous employer I moved job.

Now I'm worried about the future

  • Good evening Juddles, sorry to hear this news, im sure your new employer will be ok it's just that you changed jobs at an unfortunate time, I'm quite positive you are covered by law reference your job and cancer so if you let your employer know the diagnoses and what lies ahead they should be able to make facilities for you. Your main priority is to concentrate on your health and take things as they come, hopefully, it will not affect your new job too much. Hope it all turns out ok for you, take care.

    Hi Juddles

I was in the middle of working my notice at my old job when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had also been told it had spread. I contacted my new employer and started my new job on 17th December 2019. My new employer has been fantastic. He really has gone out of his way to help me. Agreeing to pay me ssp even though I haven't been with them for 6 months. I'm sure your new employer will be understanding and good luck in your new job. X

    Hi Hazel,

Thank you for the reply,  my diagnosis is much the same as yours,

Starting with swollen lymph node (on removal p16 positive was found) having not shown up in 2 biopsys and Ct scans.

On removal of My tonsills it was found in the left tonsill again not showing up on Pet scan.

I will look out your blog with interest, I have a further appointment with the cancer clinic next week to discuss further treatment,

    Thanks

    J

    Thanks Chris,

My new employer has been great, just hoping that will continue if I need to go down the radiotherapy root.  I believe there is a substantial recovery time.

I remain posative for the future as I am very fortunate that my  prognosis is very good.  Just need to  get throw the next step.

    Thank you for the support

    J

  • No worries Juddles, i think having a positive attitude certainly helps in this situation both from you and your consultant, recovery time does alter from person to person as do the side effects, but hopefully it will not come to that . Take care.
