My start of treatment seems to be taking for ever

T4 n1m0. Hpv+

Had all my scans and saw my oncologist yesterday. Had ecg and bloods

I've had my scans, 2 biopsies toncil and lymph node

First consultation was end nov.

I had a appointment with dentist but I've had to reschedule until 23rd as it was on same day as oncologist. Same time .

So this will put my dental work back. Oncology said removal of all is probably best plan.

I'm worried that as I've got to have teeth out

Gums repair, then mask made, peg put in more scans regarding radiotherapy, pet scan  etc that it's going to be nearly march if not. March before treatment starts. 62 days today from my doctor(gp) referring me.

Is this not a long time?

    Hi.
From my GP referring me to start of my treatment was 126 days give or take a day or two. I’m still here nearly seven years later.  Not just here but thriving.
All this takes time so try not to worry.

  • Hi. (T4 N1 M0 hpv+)

My treatment started 22nd Sept. I had 4 teeth out on 9th Sept. You may need an extra week to heal but I don't know. I had my mask fitted and pet scan/ test radiotherapy on the same day. Im guessing they may wait until after dental work but it'll be within that 2-3 week healing period.

I had my peg fitted on day 2 of treatment start date.

Fingers crossed they can arrange all ot these things in a timely way rather than having lots of separate dates for appointments.

For was 1 month from my 1st oncology consultant appointment to getting everything ready. 1 month leading up to this with mris, biopsies etc.

    Good luck with everything.

  • Good morning, my husband first went to our local walk in centre middle of August, to be told "it's more then likely that it's nothing, but refered him to ENT, about 2 weeks after that we had an appointment, to get confirmed what we dreaded to hear,T4N3M0 was our diagnosis, our consultant was very honest and open, about prognosis, treatment, recovery and giving us hope with this form of cancer being curable. From then everything went quick,PEG fitted,MRIs scans, biopsy, mask fitting etc,our treatment started third week of November. 30rouns of RT and 2rounds of CT,cisplatin.  Treatment was cruel, and recovery just as cruel,if not worse. However,he's is now a little over 12mth post treatment  an doing well. So hang in there. Stay positive. All my best. Fellow wife Mel x

  • Hi Nickr, my dentist referred me to ENT at the beginning of June, my Chemoradiotherapy started on the 2nd October. all the scans mask making, dental work, etc all have to be done, which does make it seem a long time. Be reassured the treatment does give very high rates of cure. There are many of us on here who are living proof of that, I'm over 8 years post treatment.
