My partner went to the hospital last week as part of an urgent referral from GP due to a lump on his tongue. The consultant examined this and said he was then referring him for an urgent scan and biopsy which is taking place this week as he does believe this could be cancer. We are due to get married in 7 weeks so my question is how long is it between having the biopsy, to diagnosis to starting your treatment as I would rather postpone everything instead of delaying treatment.
Thank you for sharing your story with me. Continue to stay strong and I hope the recovery goes well. X
Thank you for your message Little Tilly, my hubby sends his love too,he is recovering well,it's now 5mths since finishing his treatment (first we counting the wks,now mths),not gonna lie,but his side effects were cruel in the beginning, now they are bearable, some days better then others, but it sounds like you two are strong item, what ever comes your way, stay strong and positive. X
Hi Tilly,
So sorry to hear your news. I would speak to the consultant over-seeing your partners care and ask out right if it would be best to postpone. The reason I say this is because they are the ones that know best how the trust runs etc.
In my case all of a sudden things moved rapidly. After the biopsy results, I had two weeks of scans and appointments (all very short notice) and I was told on Thursday that I was to come in Monday for my op. Before this I mentioned to my consultant that I was going on holiday and had work trips away. He advised me not to go and I am forever grateful for this.
Wishing you both the best.
Stay strong x
Thank you for sharing your story with me. We are seeing the consultant on Wednesday when he does the biopsy so will definitely take your advice. Thanks again and Take care x
Hello
I'm sorry to hear of your partners possible diagnosis. Like others have said I can only tell you from the experience I've had (my mum was diagnosed)
My mum was diagnosed after an urgent ent referral, end of March this year, then a week or two before she had her main appointment with the oncologist, where they took bloods, made her mask, she chatted with both a dietician and speech and language therapist and met her cancer nurse,it was then a couple of weeks before she had her RIG fitted in preparation for not being able to manage enough orally. She started her treatment 4 weeks ago. She's just today finished her 5th chemo session, so she was down for the standard 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy (weekends off) then 6 chemo sessions (every Monday)
She has tonsil cancer with 2 nodes involved, hers was also HPV positive.
Like others have said it will vary a little with each trust so it's definitely worth asking at the appointment.
Please let me know if I can help in any way, I know it's a scary time for family but this is a great place to get all the information you need, or to just vent.
Good luck to you and your future husband
Good evening Little tilly, some great advice from the other guys on here, i would suggest you postpone the wedding until you have a diagnosis about your partners lump, as I think you both have enough to go through with the biopsies, scans, etc. Does your partners consultant know about your wedding plans, as he/she should be able to give their advice. Best wishes and good luck.
