My husband had his scan today and I called to find out how long results would get to us snd she said dr has to review them and we Weill go over them at his appt on the 16th!
do you think that if the radiologist or tech saw something of concern on the scan, that they wd let the dr know right away and we wd get a call asap or no?
I’m so scared my eyes are filled w tears I dunno how I’m going to wait this long

  • Hi markmac, scans and waiting for the results is very stressful. It's best not to try and second guess the result if you can. The viewing of the scan and getting the result to the consultant and then on to you, does take time. Try not to worry, two weeks will quickly go.

  • Just wondering if the tech or radiologist saw something bad wd the results get to us quicker?

  • Hi no they have to be read by oncologist and his team the people who do the scans don’t usually have input.

    It’s all about waiting.

No it generally doesn’t work that way. It will be a radiographer taking the scan. He/she isn’t qualified to interpret the scan. Only the radiologist is. Once it’s read the results go to the Dr who requested the scan. It’s a sad truth that radiologists have lots of scans to read and your husbands will be in a queue. Generally here in the U.K. the results are available to the doctor in charge around three working days. Then those results are discussed by a panel of doctors in charge of the patients treatment. It all adds to the time delay.
You could request an earlier appointment but two weeks is generally about right.

  • I will. This is going to make me go insane and I dunno how to calm myself. Ty

  • Step back and think. Is anything you do now going to make any difference to the results of the scan?
Your husbands needs you more than you imagine now I suspect. You have to hold it together. Can you two go away somewhere nice for a couple of days to reset? Take your mind off what you can’t change.

  • No. Nothing I can do. But at least I wd have some answers.

  • We are going away for a weekend in July. Not going anywhere now since his taste is not 100% and we usually go somewhere on our getaways and eat somewhere.

  • Then do something else but eat. Use your imagination. You really need to get away. It might make a huge difference. A few days … just a few days may well settle you a little.

  • Well we do things on the weekends. Markets or antique shops. Right now pretty cold to do any outdoor stuff
