Hello, me again. Sorry to keep bothering you about every new thing!
My husband has started week 4 of radiotherapy (tonsil cancer T4N1). Since his first bout of chemo he has tinnitus. The consultant recommends that he has his last bout as planned, however that will come with permanent tinnitus and some hearing loss. He doesn’t recommend changing to another drug (he’s on Cisplain) as he said combining them may not have required affect.
Of course the goal is to eradicate the cancer so he’s going to go with chemo. What I’d really like is some advice from anyone who’s gone through similar. I know everyone is different but how do you cope with tinnitus? Has it affected your life to a great extent? Thanks as always for your generosity in answering my questions xx

I have tinnitus which is helped by using hearing aids. I can’t cope with them very well so I often don’t bother. I have got used to it and can zone it out.
I do find it strange that his team won’t offer anything else
What is your husbands staging? For a lot of us chemo adds around 6% to cure rates which isn’t crucial if you are T1/2 but more important if the cancer is more advanced. Carboplatin is less ototoxic and nearly as efficient.
He’s T4. They’ve told him that without the chemo they may not rid him of cancer.

There’s a lot you can do with tinnitus AND despite what they say platinum tinnitus isn’t always permanent so fingers crossed
