Hi Everyone

Just thought I'd do a quick update. neck has healed really well from dissection.

Had my Tors robotic surgery yesterday. Was first on the list which was really good for my anxiety. Few issues getting cannula in again but everyone lovely.

So far so good!!!! surgeon happy with way op went and happy with my healing so far. My pain is being mansged brilliantly, iv morphone that I control myself, paracetamol and a fetanol patch . Had a bit of a bad night had trouble swallowing water which then made me panic. Just had meeting with a lovely speech therapist who gave me Nutilis clear thickening agent so I can control the water better, but still takes about 6 swallows. She also showed me how to sip and turn my head to stop the panic. She also got me to try the famous fortisip and has left me one to try and finish today.

I'm now heading into the tricky days but feeling positive about facing them.

Well done. You seem to have taken all this really well which is unbelievably encouraging for those of us just starting out

  • Well done. I couldn’t swallow at all initially - it wasn’t pain just couldn’t make myself do it. It will come.

  • I seem to have a wobble when I have to drink in bed. Once im up in chair its ok . speech therapist taught me how to swallow different yesterday and at mo im half way through my first fortisip takes ages though, not sure I'll have enough time in the day to get through 5 of them but I suppose as the days go on you get a bit quicker.

  • Hi I must admit Ive totally amazed myself seeing as I was so anxious. I know the harder darker days will come thats expected . It my birthday next Wednesday so I've got a focus to get home for.

  • Sounds like you’re making progress. It felt like I spent all my waking hours eating for at least the first two weeks. As soon as I could swallow liquids they sent me home.

  • The doctors told me days 4-5 would be the worst and that was about right I’m afraid. I was sent home with oramorph and I did use it over about 5 days particularly to get me going in the morning. I found sleeping difficult. But I think you’ve got your reclining sofa!!
