Any good tips to prevent or help
Some people find that a nebuliser helps - the hospital loaned me one. I was prescribed carbocysteine to reduce mucus, I think that's standard.

That's just sticky mucous you're talking about, Catriona. I think Spencerbear means the inflammation and ulcers that you get with radiation.
You'll likely be given Difflam, which is an NSAID and helps a bit, Caphosol which does a similar thing and a something called Gelclair. The rest is up to keeping your mouth clean with salt/bicarbonate. I needed morphine too. Most of us do
