Hi all,
Just providing a bit of an update really.
Got the results back from the surgical biopsy and it came back negative. Met the consultant who I think will be looking after me and really feel like he's invested and has my best interests at heart. He thinks it's worth having one last go at finding the primary so we're going to "Pull out the tongue and take a chunk out of it." He did say the name. Possibly- Mucusectomy? He said this was going to be a bit worse than the last biopsy but it might mean we can reduce the lense of the treatment.
Treatment is going to be a 6 week course of Chemoradiotherapy. No further details at this point as taking it one step at a time and first step is the surgery.
Have spoken to work and am having a meeting with HR next week to discuss how they can best support me through this process. Have also been reassured that the door is absolutely not closed on my contract being extended.
So ups and downs.
Pretty terrified of the fight ahead but I've got two little people who need Daddy to kick it's butt!
Thanks for all your support. This group has been a bit of godsend in getting me clued up on the road ahead.
Hope all your treatment/recovery is going well.

"Pull out the tongue and take a chunk out of it."
When signing my consent form and coming to the part about placing an NG I ignorantly said I would try without it. My consultant said, " Unlikely, I'm really going to fry the back of your throat."
Makes you wonder whether their enthusiasm sometimes gets in the way of bedside manner

Keep those two little people in mind and know that we have your back, here.
Once your treatment starts you will feel better about it all. The fear goes and the determination to plod through takes over. You're allowed to feel sorry for yourself and have the odd meltdown. It's a release and you start again. Hugs

Hi
i had a mucosectomy along with tonsillectomy and neck dissection. I think they remove soft tissue while retaining the muscle ( and hence swallow). I think it’s mostly done by TORS procedures now but you could ask. I definitely found it difficult to swallow after but that’s almost back to normal.
good luck!!
