Hi everyone,
Just Into to my 6th week post treatment , I have been rig feeding for a while due to too much pain when swallowing. This week I have started introducing soft foods like Muller rice and custard, they make my throat sore for a couple of minutes but I continue to eat until it gets too much. Usually nearly a pot done.Thought I'd try one of those heinz kiddies spag bol small tins ,I got one small spoonfull and it was too much had to put it down!! Should I have continued and coped with the soreness of swallowing? ,not sure how much I should push this ? Any help would be appreciated,I'm worried I'm not trying hard enough .
Thanks Mark
Hi Mark.. my bad.. I read that you were in 6th week of treatment... d'oh.. continue to use your rig for a while, you need to get those calories in.. just try to eat soft, sloppy foods.. anything that you can tolerate.. take your time.. remember, it's not a race.

Personally I would RIG feed for a week and try again. Milky foods are best. Avoid spaghetti Bol....the tomato in it is awful on the throat. You could try gang;ling with either a sip of morphine and swallowing it or a soluble aspirin or difflam and spitting those out

Soft scrambled eggs made with double cream and cheese melted into it helped me through. Sadly it tasted of nothing but it was calorific and slipped down quite nicely. Also lots of custard, again made with double cream gradually introducing more and more Reddibrek as my throat began to tolerate it. Don’t try too hard. It’ll come eventually. M
Hi Mark
Post treatment CNS and dietitian were in contact every 2 week to motivate me...both advised taking Oramorph 15 minutes before each meal...swill it around the mouth/throat area...then swallow....worked for me....started taking small frequent mushy meals supplemented with tube feed...I was desperate to be rid of my PEG...finished treatment June 2023 PEG removed September 2023

Sounds like you are doing well at this stage. Little and often is a good maxim when eating. Also do experiment, but be prepared for disappointment. However remember that what does/does not work one week may be the opposite the following week!
