Hi again, I’m really panicking this morning and would like some advice from people with similar problems. I have cancer of the tongue and lymph nodes on right side and have been using a feeding rig for approx 3 weeks since my tongue was too sore to touch with food. Today I tried to sip a Luke warm cup of tea and each small mouthful regurgitates back in my mouth. Please advise how long this lasts and should I just keep trying to swallow? We are meant to be having a couple of days in a caravan and I’m worried if I should stay home or just stock up with drinks and hope it soon improves x
Gosh, Sue, I really can’t remember. I don’t think it was that long….but then I don’t think I had it as badly as you have. I don’t remember things ever being so bad that I couldn’t, for example, use toothpaste….although I had to give the Duraphat a miss…still do from time to time when my mouth gets irritated. They gave me difflam….which used to sting a bit and which I imagine you would find a bit harsh, and some thick gel stuff in sachets (can’t remember the name) which was quite soothing, and I used Caphosol.
I hope things soon settle down for you. Enjoy your break.

I hope Norfolk is sunny. We had a fantastic 3 night there a couple of weeks ago at Ludham Bridge. The sun was magical. Then we continued up the coast and are now in Aberdeenshire. 5 weeks away "doing" the east coast is my reward for the last few months
I agree about working. Even now I find it difficult to concentrate long enough for Board Papers and other documents and I do not work just volunteer
Thanks Liz, my cancer was on the side of my tongue so that probably makes a difference as other people I’ve spoken to who have the cancer at the back of the tongue don’t seem to have the same problem although they have it worse in the throat. It really does take over your life, I’ve just packed a whole chemist just to have 4 days away! I’m so grateful for you and everyone’s snippets of their journey which have been of such help.xx

Tell me about it. We’re out in Cyprus at the moment and about half my luggage allowance was taken up with smoothie powders as we’ll be here for a while. Only a precaution as my eating isn’t too bad. All adds to the fun.
If you’ve any more questions then don’t hesitate. I’m happy to share my experience….although I’m conscious, reading other people’s comments, that I got off relatively lightly. That said, it wasn’t a walk in the park and I wouldn’t do it again….not that you can do it more than once.
Hope you get to see some decent weather.
Liz
Thanks Peter but unfortunately we had torrential rain for 3 days but managed to go to Oulton Broads yesterday. It was great to get out and about although it’s not quite the same avoiding all places that cooked delicious smelling food, it was torture to my tastebuds! On the other hand it made a lovely change of scenery and glad I came

Hi Sue. Boo that the weather was bad but you had a change of scenery and that will have boosted you
Everything else will follow recovery can be a marathon and not a sprint. Youll get there in the end.
Remember your body needs to rest and recover as well as your mind take everything one day at a time.

Hi Sue and welcome. Hope you don't mind me asking but when you had your 2nd reoccurrence did they say if this was not the norm and what was the frequency of your review appointments and where abouts was the cancer? Best wishes Michael
