Hi again
I’m currently in hospital after having a RIG fitted yesterday and I’ve never had so much pain in my life. I’m meant to be going home today but it hurts my stomach to move or walk, I’m so fed up, did anyone else suffer this much with the fitting?
Interesting. I had both tongue biopsy and RIG fitted. No prior self administered antibacterial procedures for either. Don’t know what happened prior to RIG insertion: I was out for the count thankfully.
I had no problems with infection. Interesting how different Trusts/hospitals/Consultants do things differently.

ive not had 1 infection with my rig just a bit of crust but i spoke to my nurse and she said a bit of crust is normal other than that no infection at all since it went in but today is 1 week ive not used it so 2 more weeks like this and it will be coming out so hopefully no infection between now and then and i be able to say mine did not get infection at all and i dont clean mine every day just once a week it had a dressing on all the time as well due to the disc keep embedding in my skin when my belly bloats out due to other probs i have with my stomach so seems the less its touched the better lol maybe iam a lucky one not had any infection with it at all xx
yes iam flushing it every day with 60ml i know 60ml is all we need to do but i do 60 in each 1 just to be on the safe side xx when u had yours changed i know you said it was not painfull but when they took the old 1 out i presume thats how they do it when its removed but could i feel anything at all any sensations or pulling n could you feel the tube inside being pulled out? iam already panicking lol and i dont know if i going to make it to my appointment with my team on the 6th as i have to go by underground from epping and they on bloody strike most of that week including the day i got to go i not sure if iam entitled to transport as treatment is now finished i had transport every day during treatment but not sure a out now treatment is finished and if i cant get there i wont b seeing oncologists or dietition who have the last say as to if my rig can be removed or not so am panaicking iam not going to get there and then rig will be staying even longer x my anxiety is so bad since all this cancer and rig xx did u manage to enjoy your lil drink last night without being to painfull xx
Really don’t worry about the rig removal I didn’t feel a thing except it sounded like air came out of my stomach that was all. Even the one she put back in was not uncomfortable in any way. You do need to keep turning it so that it doesn’t become stuck to your skin though. At least you’re not having one put back in this time. If you can’t get hospital transport your area may do hospital cars that are privately run. In my area they do as I know a couple of women who do this voluntary service. My little drink turned out to be about 3 sips as it was painful on my tongue unfortunately. I tried mashed strawberries and melon and even they stung my mouth. I’m getting so annoyed that my mouth and tongue are taking so long to heal, this is the 5th week after RT too. I had my mouth checked and the team just said to rinse with salt but I hit the roof with anything salty xx
oh my god iam not surprised salt water you hit the roof with that try get them pink tablets i showed you should not hurt as much as salt and i spoke to my nurse about twisting it and she said it cos of the balloon it should not get embedded as the ballon is quite big it stops that happening and she has never seen this type of rig to become embedded they twist n pull on it when balloon get done i told her it never gets touched to b twisted as i cant do it and cant let the nurse touch it only to do the balloon and iam worried that would happen but she says that cant happen as the balloon is to big but iam worried there will be complications when they take it out what is it that u twist? x
and cos i cant let noone touch it ive never been shown what to do i go dizzy and nearly pass out if any1 touches it this is why they have agreed it can come out before my scan and results i have developed a phobia against it as it caused me so much pain when it went in i was bed bound for 16 days with pain and apparently to develop a phobia against it is an emotional reaction due to the pain it caused me which all makes sense but now noone touches it only to do the balloon iam scared i going to have problems when it comes out as rhe skin could be attached to the tube now not sure if they twist it when the ballon gets done or not iam now so anxious its going to be stuck when they try take it out mayb have it taken out at hospital instead of home incase there is a complication i did say i rather b at home but mayb hospital to be on the safe side i wonder how they will vet it out if it is stuck iam proper worried now x
