Hi again

I’m currently in hospital after having a RIG fitted yesterday and I’ve never had so much pain in my life. I’m meant to be going home today but it hurts my stomach to move or walk, I’m so fed up, did anyone else suffer this much with the fitting?

  • Great news keep at it.

  • is it. normal to get a bit of crust around the rig site? it all looks clean and good no redness etc but i had a bit of crust there and its. not the 1st time i forgot to ask the nurse who came and done the balloon today as i have such phobia to it they are not touching it only doing the balloon iam letting it get wet in shower and it seems clean n ok no sign of infection or anything but a bit of crust x

  • Hi Donna I didn’t  have a tummy feed mine was nasal but if nurses came  today am sure they would have said if anything wrong. Am sure someone will pop on who has had a rig / peg to reassure you.

  • I get some crust on the tube and I remove it with a cotton bud and octenilin xx

  • Yes it seems to be quite normal. I had a PEG but basically the same thing.  Most times it was barely noticeable but occasionally it built up.  In the shower each day when I advanced and rotated I removed it.  Nothing clinical about the technique, just picked it off Joy

  •  cos iam so phobic of any1 touching it the nurses dont touch it they just do the balloon n i clean it in my own way so nurses not looked as it has a dressing under the disc to stop the disc embedding in my skin like it did before so nurses dont look they do the balloon i can see its not red or sore or infected and i have my own way of cleaning it m changing the dressing x

  • yes it was on rhe tune i used my clean finger to feel around the site and thats exactly what i been doing using a wet  cotton bud to clean around the site if i not in the shower id it was red or sore or warm i would worry it was infected but its none or those n from the bit i can touch and look at looks ok but even if i could touch n look at it all i could not see it looking down past n under me boobs any way lol xx

  • I wonder if all these folk having infection problems might not have been prepped properly? There’s another thread started by  where they are talking about it.
My husband is going in for surgery at the beginning of December and he has to prep his skin pretty thoroughly with a bactericidal body wash.

  • Hi Dani,

I was given anti bacterial wash for when I had my tongue biopsy procedure, had to use it 5 days before I went in . But wasn't given any for RIG procedure. But used it night before anyway.

I remember the area was totally cleaned with something before Dr started RIG procedure.

    Cheers Mark
