Hi again
I’m currently in hospital after having a RIG fitted yesterday and I’ve never had so much pain in my life. I’m meant to be going home today but it hurts my stomach to move or walk, I’m so fed up, did anyone else suffer this much with the fitting?
For those lucky enough to have had their RIG removed, is it really as simple as I've heard somebody say elsewhere - i.e. they literally just pull it out you and you hear a "pop" or is it a bit different (or painful) to that ?
I've had my 12 week scan this week, and not used the RIG for over 8 of them now, so I'm planning on asking for it to be removed at my scan follow up on 1st October. I guess removal will depend on whether or not I need anymore treatment but if I get even the smallest piece of good news I definitely want it removed.
all u on this site have been so helpfull and encouraging and i thank u all for being here talking to me i guess everyones recovery and journey are different and we have to take 1 day at a time and jt keep hoping for the best iam dreading whats to come next now treatment is almost over as my team have said it will get worse at the end before anything gets better so i guess its a prepare for theorst but hope for the best xx
i would want mine removed as soon as poss as well once iam eating and drinking ok its got to go lol my team said the aim at 6 weeks after treatment but some people tske longer i pray u get it out asap xx
I asked at 6 weeks but they said as a minimum they wanted to keep it in me until I had my scan and results.
Off to Malaga on the 13th October and I'm hardly the owner of a beach body as it is without me also having to walk around poolside with a RIG hanging out of me so I'll definitely be insisting on the 1st that it goes !
ahh bless ya i dont blame you wanting it out b4 u go away so would i i want mine out asap my team did say if eating and drinking ok at 6 weeks check it can come out seems diff hospitals have their own rules x
Hi FifeFlyer. I had my rig removed and how you describe it is quite accurate. It's over in a flash. Very slight sting when it came out but it soon passed. I was told to lay flat for 6 hours which I did....something to do with stomach acids could leak through the hole. Mine closed over pretty quickly. Just remember it's out before you know it. The nurses are very skilled they are like a fine oiled machine x Good luck xx Jackie xx
Hi Debbielouise. I am 4.5 months post treatment and I will reassure you things will improve. I stupidly thought 12 days after treatment I would be fine. I still had a lot of recovering to do so I shouldn't have expected to feel better straight away and I didn't. Remember the radiotherapy continues to work after treatment stops for 7 to 10 days. But once you are passed that gradually you will start to improve. Be kind to yourself and listen to your body. If you need to rest, rest! Don't do what I did and try and carry on as normal. I am sitting here today feeling a lot better. Good luck! Jackie xx
Thanks Donna, I’ve just sent you a PM.
2 days off for you then only 5 left, you’re doing so well considering all the kick backs you’ve had one way or another. Even waiting for transport when you feel rough is hard.
Sue xx
