Hi all,
I’ve completed 2 weeks of my radiotherapy, 4 weeks to go. It is starting to feel like something is stuck in my throat on the left side every time I swallow. I’m still able to eat although noticing a difference in taste.
just wondering if anyone else had this feeling. Obviously just worried it’s cancer progression rather than the treatment.
thanks
Good evening Jako, what you are describing sounds all too familiar. My hubby was the same and I believe what you are experiencing seem to be a common thing ,it's still early in your journey,so it could get potentially worse before it gets better. As to taste, my hubby one day had a chicken sandwich, and I remember him literally spitting it out as it tasted awful. Now 18mths later, some tastes are still not the same. This is just my husband's story. Everyone experiences this journey differently. But for most is a "one step forward, two steps back" kind of thing. All my best wishes fellow wife Mel.
Hi
Taste goes during treatment for many. Sometimes it is towards salt and sometimes towards metallic. Even 2 1.2 years post treatment i get food stuck in my throat. It is disconcerting, especially for those watching me, but I have learned how to deal with it. In my case it is mainly through lack of saliva and probably my throat still being sensitive post treatment and swelling slightly as I eat. A good maxim is eat little and often to counter this effect.
2 weeks is pretty early on in the treatment, things happen in the oral cavity and throat as the treatment progresses, most of it unpleasant, we take a lot of punishment...keep the radiotherapy/oncology teams in the loop with pain and swallowing issues...they have witnessed the lot and know how to deal with them.
good luck
Michael

Try not to worry. Your throat is going to get much worse before it gets better. Two weeks is when we start getting a tickly, irritated throat. The RT is hammering the sensitive tissues
