my partner is taking co-codamol not the very strong ones ..the 8/500mg.

they have given him 30/500 mg in case he needs them but at the moment he is fine .he finished his treatment 2 days ago..the nurse gave him some laxido to go through the tube to stop him getting constipated but he had one last night and it did not suit him at all ..acid coming up and sick. we dont see the nurse until monday (she wants to check the rad marks on his neck) i was wondering if there would be a reason i could,nt get pure prunejuice from amazon and use some of that through his rig ..does anyone know?

  • My husband has been having intermittent fevers too. Sometimes going up to 38. He finished treatment last Friday. He has had blood tests today to check white blood count but oncologist thinks it maybe just a side effect of radiotherapy. Hope he feels ok now.

  • Hi Deb

I am sure that you have already done this but if not paracetamol is really good for temps. It is also great for any underlying pain. I'm sure you already know that you can get it in liquid form or disolvable tablets. It did wonders for me.

In relation to the constipation. I tried prune juice, pear juice etc and nothing worked except Movicol.

Being on opiates really affects your bowel and you need to take Movicol everyday until no longer on the opiates. Constipation can make you feel really ill so you really have to keep on top of it.

I do hope your husband feels better soon.

Lyn is right BUT your husband is already on Cocodomol which has paracetamol in it so don't take extra

  • a big thanks for all replies , i have checked his temp twice this morning 5am and 7am and its come down nicely and at present is 36.6..when we see the nurse on mon i will tell her and also sort out something for constipation .he is not on a large amount of morphine its just been 8mg 4 times a day in the co-codamol.he says he is going to take the co-codamol 10pm and 5-6 am and try to go back to just paracetamol during the day (but just paracetamol )the nurse did stress dont take both.

Don't worry. There are lots of solutions. Lactulose may work as well. Increasing activity is good too. I don't know if he's up to that but even a gentle walk outside is helpful

opioid induced constipation was one of the problems that I faced when in hospital.. you really don't want that.. enemas, diarrhoea in my sleep.. I now feel that I have it under control, but I take 2 movicol/laxido throughout the day and sodium picosulphate before bed..
