I am in week 5 of 6.5 weeks of radiotherapy targeting bottom lip and chin area following 2 surgeries removing squamous cell carcinomas and lip reconstruction.
So far, I have been coping ok and still eating normally (which they didn't expect) but now my skin around lip/chin area is very red, dry and sore from RT and its quite getting painful. I'm also concerned about it getting worse and infected. I have quite a long scar across chin from surgery in May and that seems particularly affected.
I will talk to oncology team but just wondered if anyone had any recommendations for anything they found helped?
I have Psoriasis and very sensitive skin so am very careful about products I use ordinarily and oncologist originally said to use what works for me. At moment I am using cream cleanser, gel and moisturiser from the Body Shop Aloe range and E45 Face Moisturiser. I also use Lindi Skin Cooler pads which I got via the Cancer Research online shop.
All these were helpful and worked but I think I now need something more hardcore!
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Thanks Peter, I've not found Aveeno particularly helpful previously (tbh I find most offer so much but never deliver - as a fellow psoriasis sufferer you will understand)
I haven't used Epimax so will look at that option.
Thank you!
Hi Groundhog
Problem with psoriasis is that most sufferers look for the magic cream to help the condition.... spend a fortune looking for it....
My GP swears that steroid cream should be the answer... been prescribed it on and off for 20 years... never had any real success with it... sometimes made psoriasis worse.
Epimax Oatmeal is available on prescription here .. seems to help.

asked my CNS if I could have Flamigel RT, and was told that they use Epimax and flamazine or was it flaminal? should the skin break down.. thing is, I don't want to take the chance of my skin breaking down as it's just another gateway for infection, and having a weakened immune system to start with doesn't fill me with joy TBH

well, it looks like I'm good to go with the Flamigel RT.. just need to inform oncologist when I have the chemo meeting.

I'll say.. there was no hesitation.. just make sure I ok it with the team. That is a load off my mind.
