I am in week 5 of 6.5 weeks of radiotherapy targeting bottom lip and chin area following 2 surgeries removing squamous cell carcinomas and lip reconstruction.
So far, I have been coping ok and still eating normally (which they didn't expect) but now my skin around lip/chin area is very red, dry and sore from RT and its quite getting painful. I'm also concerned about it getting worse and infected. I have quite a long scar across chin from surgery in May and that seems particularly affected.
I will talk to oncology team but just wondered if anyone had any recommendations for anything they found helped?
I have Psoriasis and very sensitive skin so am very careful about products I use ordinarily and oncologist originally said to use what works for me. At moment I am using cream cleanser, gel and moisturiser from the Body Shop Aloe range and E45 Face Moisturiser. I also use Lindi Skin Cooler pads which I got via the Cancer Research online shop.
All these were helpful and worked but I think I now need something more hardcore!
Any suggestions gratefully received!
I used Balmonds cream as I prefer not to use petroleum/paraffin based ones like E45 - it worked well for me

Flamigel and moisturise with something bland like Diprobase.
Flamazine when RT is finished if it’s really bad. The good news is that as soon as RT is done it starts to get better

Ask your team if they will prescribe it at hospital. Not all trusts will.

Is Flamagel good to use from day1, or is it best to use emollient until/if you start reacting.

I don’t thjnk you woujd get it until you need it. Putting stuff on too early can cause other issues possibly. Remember not everyone if us get everything many sail through it without burning some of us nor that lucky.

The indication is to use from day 1 three times a day.
I used aloe vera gel. Flamugel RT I reckon must be much better.
