Hi all, finished radiotherapy 14 weeks ago for base of tongue scc.
My mouth has become really dry again, and my throat has now decided that i can no longer swallow anything solid yet again. I have also developed lymphodema (turkey neck and swellings to side and back of neck and bottom of cheeks).
I am so dry now that I have to carry water everywhere. My taste is still not back, but I now 'taste' most things as rotten food, and gag when I taste them. The only things I can now 'eat' is coffee flavoured Ensure, weetabix (mashed to a pulp), and pureed red meat and onions. Almost anything else is horrendous. I have also gone almost completely deaf!
This so called recovery seems to be worse than the treatment, and gets worse not better as time goes on.
How does anyone get through this? I am really fed up.
Hi I know it's frustrating and it took me nearly 8 months to get back to any sort of normality...but when improvement comes...it comes quickly.. just stick with it...try and work on your fitness by day walking more...it really helps..and it pays to try and stay positive...it worked for me and many others on here
Good luck
