Hi everyone, since the hot weather started a couple of days ago my mouth has been drier obviously & I’ve managed that but my tongue is sore at the front , I can’t see anything there so not sure why , can anyone suggest anything to ease this , taking into consideration most things sting where the soreness is at the moment .5 weeks post treatment, thank you xx
Hi Aly14 I am over 4years post treatment, and I still get tingling on my tongue from time to time, it could be nerve damage from the RT. You could have bitten your tongue without knowing it while asleep at night. At your next check up, just mention it if you are worried.
Regards Ray.
Thank you Ray the nurse has just got back , she said it could be where my mouth has been so dry with this heat or still the radiotherapy yet my dietitian & speech & language lady said last week I would get anything else now , hopefully it will pass x
My oral surgeon suggested that my sores (which I though was a second reoccurrence of my cancer) were probably caused by unconsciously rubbing the tip of my tongue of the back of my teeth. He said as we get older they move slightly out of alignment and become rougher and that can cause sores if the tongue rubs against it. I guess we are all hypersensitive to any such issues.
Hi Aly your tongue may be slightly thicker than previous and with the dry hot weather drier and rubbing against teeth. You may also have irritated it with food sometimes you can eat something then a day or so get a burning sensation. Try gelclair on it if you have some. Wouldn’t try bonjela yet as it’s early days and will sting. There’s aloclair or iglu you can get over the counter at most chemist know Amazon sell aloclair I always have both in house just in case.
How are you apart from tongue ?

Hi Hazel I’m good thank you , yes very strange it’s all of a sudden since the heatwave , I’m still managing to eat so that’s a good thing , I’m going to try what you suggested thank you xx
Aly I was in the same position - never had my tongue do that before so thought the worst. Now it frequently happens and I just accept it and try to remember not to subconsciously roll my tongue over my teeth!
