Hi

I started treatment yesterday.  1st RT dose and first Cisplatin.

I was given steroids and anti sickness drugs intravenously yesterday.  In addition I have taken Dexamethasone, Granisetron and Domperidone today and I have still been sick and feel really sick. How long does the sickness ordinarily last after receiving the Cisplatin.  Is there anything else left to take? Any recommendations?

Thanks

J xx

  • Oh poor you. Funny how we get given different things. I had my 2nd cistplatin yesterday (only having 2) but my anti sickness is called metoclopramide, although i have felt a bit queasy here and there have not been sick at all. I would speak to them and see if you can change it if that one is not working for you. I have seen other people on here say they did try more than one.

One of the RT ladies said her friend who is having chemo has lemon and ginger tea which helps her. I have got some to try and ordered some ginger chewy sweets to see if i can help with the queasy, it's so annoying!!

Hopefully it won't last too long. Possibly might feel more wiped out sat/sun just be prepared though we are all different I def was lazy time.

    Take care,

    Julie xx

  • Really sorry to hear you are still suffering from sickness despite the anti emetics.

Just curious, i was told to take an anti emetic an hour before i started chemo - Ondansetron i think? have you been offered that?

  • No. I wasn't offered thar. If I'm still feeling queasy tomorrow I'll have a chat with the nurse.  Thanks

  • Thanks Julie.  It's a lot worse than I thought it would be in the first week.  There are clearly lots of different options out there.  About to have some ginger tea. Hopefully that will help.

  • I think it helps a lot, definitely ask, i took all four meds whether i felt nauseous or not! luckily i avoided any nausea as a result

  • What is your treatment plan??

  • 35 sessions of RT and 5/6 weeks of Cisplatin.

  • I think you def need to get your sickness med changed then if they're not working, that would def help with feeling better. It does knock you out a bit though, took me by surprise the first time. Have to say 2nd one was better if that helps!!

  • Being or feeling sick isn't great is it?. I had a PEG fitted Monday which adds to worry around vomiting.

  • These are rough times indeed, there is no getting away from it. I find feeling poorly quite tough as i've always been healthy until this. Just try and take it easy, if you can distract yourself with binge TV or a book or whatever takes your fancy that might help.

Keep coming on here for support too, it helps to know you are not alone x
