Hello all,
Today I had no. 12 of 30 radiotherapies. I have also had 1 of 2 cistplatin, no. 2 next week.
I know people have talked of seeing an immediate reduction in lumps in neck, I am slightly concerned that I am seeing none, in fact the neck is swollen out more than ever :-(
Also feeling quite queasy a lot, is this something others have experienced??
Thanks in advance,
Julie x
Hi Julie
I suffered with nausea all through my treatment but the meds I was given kept it at bay. Although the meds alongside the morphine caused constipation so I needed meds for that too!!!
My neck lump was there for a few weeks and then started to disappear but I had a mass of tissue appear in the spot but about 4 times the size of the lump. My oncologist isn’t concerned as I can still feel it. I assume the radiotherapy has blasted the node but caused a wider swelling.
I have never had any pain or bother in my neck, just a sore throat and tongue.
Hope all goes well this week with chemo and you should be 3/4 through the radiotherapy at the end of this week. It might feel like you are limping to the finish line but you will get there.
Good luck
Michelle xx
Hi Julie. Mention the nausea to your radiographers or your chemo nurse. Your anti sickness meds may need tweaking.
please don’t worry about your neck lymph nodes. It’s too early to be concerned. Some people notice a reduction in size of cancerous nodes fairly quickly, others continue to see them getting smaller for months. Both scenarios are normal.
Where is your neck swollen? Irradiated salivary glands can swell alarmingly, my submandibular ones did.
You may also have some lymphodema which is a collection of lymph free in the tissues as the normal lymph nodes are being damaged by the radiotherapy
There is a simple massage technique here if you want to have a go

Thanks for the reassurance Dani. It's the original lump that I can feel, with a neck muscle underneath being pushed out by another lump underneath it. I am seeing the oncologist tomorrow so hopefully will get positives from there too.
I hope you are feeling a bit better than earlier,
Julie
Hey Julie....I really wouldn't be worried about that.......truly.
You're looking pretty good
