Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with Tongue Cancer. It is stage 1 cancer and has not at this stage reached my lymp nodes.

I was due to go in to hospital on 7th January 2020 to have a Partial Glossectomy, but at last minute cancelled due to Covid Virus.

Saw Consultant today, and although it is not ideal, he says he is prepared to do my op under local anesthetic, which absolutely terrifies me.

I am considering it, but really do not know which way to jump.

Has anyone had this procedure done this way?

Would appreciate some help with this one.

Thankyou

Thank you Chris, all the comments help me so much.

Perhaps reading every one of the leaflets rather scared me a bit! and as every one says, we are not all the same, and take a day at a time!

Thank all of you so very much, you have all been such a big help and comfort to me to date.

I will be back at some stage I expect asking for more of your help! which you are all so kind enough to offer me.

Talking with people who have been through very similar experiences is a life saver for me.

    Thank you all again!

Well here I am again, I will be going for my RT on Monday, I am all geared up and ready to go!

My problem at the moment is something else, I am hoping that someone might shed some light on my situation.

A week ago I started to feel completely fatigued,(not just tired!) my head feels like cotton wool, and I have this horrible feeling inside me, sort of shaky like you need to have something sweet, and hot sweats like I have not had in many years!

I have been checked out by having bloods checked but all seems to be ok. My Nurse says that I have been through major surgery and to expect to feel lethargic!!!!! and be kind to myself and rest with gentle exercise, but I can not understand this feeling now, when I have been ok before, well, the normal pain and discomfort of getting over surgery!

So anyone who has had a tongue tumour removed and a neck dissection, did you get any of these type of symptoms 8 weeks after surgery?

I look forward to any comments that might be able to help me with my problem, as going for RT on Monday is rather a horrible thought when feeling like this!

    Thanks.

  • Hi Carol

your body’s had a major shock it’s not every day we get told we’ve cancer remember. If your bloods have been checked your not anaemic your nurse is probably right. Bet you’re running around sorting stuff out for hubby etc. Literally sit down watch crap tv read a book key others run after you. Once treatment starts Monday a weights lifted off your shoulders. I didn’t have surgery apart from biopsy

HI Hazel, you are probably right on most of it, but I am literally doing nothing!, Hubby does everything! That is why I find it so frustrating. But I will do as my body tells me to do, I know I have no choice.  Perhaps I do expect too much too soon!

    Thanks Hazel.

  • I was a fellow sufferer. Hot flashes and feeling wobbly before RT started. I did mention it to CNS but she simply said go to GP. It’s not the cancer. It stopped after the first week only to return but without the intensity about six months later. I just shrug them off.

Thanks Dani, I think that is what I am going to have to do. As Hazel says, once Monday starts it will be a weight off of my shoulders.  That is probably a lot to do with it.

  • Yes. Best foot forward tomorrow. Take it easy the sessions aren’t as bad as you imagine. I was 10 minutes from being clipped down to getting off the table. Some people take their own music. I never bothered simply listening to whatever they had on. Nothing much happens for the first two weeks then things start to irritate and escalate.

Yes I think I will do the same, listen to whatever they want to throw at me, I was told the session will only be 10 minutes each time anyway, I say only, it will probably seem like a life time....lol

I will let you know how it all goes.
