Hi everyone, I'm not very good with tech, and I've never really done any web chats, embarrassing for a 42 year old I know but bear with me!
I have been diagnosed with a snuc during lockdown that has spread to the lymph nodes in my neck and also into the brain cavity. I have had 2 rounds of chemotherapy so far and I am due to start a combined chemo and radiotherapy treatment on the 13th July. It will be radiotherapy 5 days a week for 6weeks and chemotherapy once a week during those 6 weeks.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar treatment in a similar area and could offer me a bit of advice about what to expect, I've been told it probably will be quite hard going but any helpful advice or pointers would be really appreciated.
Yeah Dee I'm loving being at home!
No they said the tumour is really quick growing and even though the surgeon removed 85% of it when he did the biopsy it has grown back to more or less the same size it was before. Its the part in the brain cavity though that is causing the big problem. Because it is actually pushing on the brain and it is right in the centre where the optical cortex is, zapping it could potentially cause more damage. She said using the small dose of radiotherapy is not likely to kill it and going for a bigger dose has obviously a better chance but there is also a bigger risk of long term damage.
I'm having radiotherapy 5 days a week for 6 weeks with a dose of cisplatin every Monday. They said surgery is not an option for the bit inside the brain cavity especially not after the radiotherapy.
Consultant said the part of the brain it could affect is responsible for cognitive function and I could lose some short term memory and my inhibitions. So i could become a serial flasher or something similar!!

Hi Chippy,
So glad you are home thank you for the lovely message just listening to Rocky theme tune puts you in the fighting spirit and ready to put the two fingers up at the big C. You have got some tough decisions coming up but you sound like you got a wonderful family to support you.
its been bit confusing about dads case the doctors haven’t said the C word to us as of yet but how quick they are acting and keep telling us how aggressive it is also dads got all the symptoms and how quick his deteriorating makes us fear the worse. We had to see the eye doctor at the hospital and he read out the report on his sinus and skull scan and the radiologist has already staged it as T4 started of in his maxillary sinus and now in the meckal cave and covers the base of his skull. I think the biopsy was to see if it’s primary or secondary as our neurosurgeon thinks the tumour is either primary or secondary they think it’s secondary.
biopsy went ok dad came home last night I don’t think it has relieved any of his symptoms still nose block double vision but they have gave him two week steroids to help it has taken the swelling down on his left eye and his left eye is not as blood shot hopefully we get the answers next week and plan of action to start the fight mum and dad live with me at the moment so it’s a big relief I can keep an eye on them and they have got their grandchildren keeping them on their toes.
Always thinking of you Chippy and if any one can beat this you can Chippy stay positive will keep you updated rest this week Chippy and get your strength ready for next Monday you got this stay strong and have a Rocky marathon
Yeah glad to be home Dee. I had to go back again this morning cause the bleed started getting worse again. They just shoved a foam packer up there and let me go home again. I just got to keep an eye on it.
Biopsy was 30th of April, surgeon said he removed 85% of it but since then it has grown back to pre biopsy size.
Me and my wife have been talking about things and I think we are going to go with my consultants recommendation on it. We know she will do the absolute best she can and I trust her 100%.
Wife reckons personality changes could be a positive! I could become more easygoing and sociable. Losing inhibitions could mean I actually get up and dance at parties and karaoke all the time. The other version could be I end up walking up and down the road in a dressing gown flashing and shouting at cars!
Yeah watch this space Hazel, it could get rather inappropriate and interesting!!
I've got faith in the team dealing with me, and I know my consultant will do her absolute best for me, I think that's all you can ask for.
I am going to start a blog on here soon, but with me being a very slow typist it will be quite a slow process!!
Cheers Helen, it is lovely being at home with my girls.
What you said about sticking two fingers up to the big c is absolutely right, cancer doesn't just want to hurt and break the person who has it, it wants to do the same to our families and our friends. Initially the news and the bombshells we have to take do rock us all to our core but it seems to me that the further in we get, the more stubbornly resilient we become, we wont roll over and we wont make it easy for this thing.
What a great thing you are doing looking after your mum and dad and the grand kids will provide a welcome distraction from everything that's going on I'm sure.
Do keep me posted on developments and I will let you know how things are going my end. Pass on my best wishes to your mum and dad. I will be starting a blog soon but it would probably be quicker if I had a snail typing for me!!
Hi Chippy, can't believe u were back up again, ur gona need a blood transfusion at this rate... u would think they could put a wee stitch or something in it to stop it bleeding....
I think ur right Chippy, i think u should take the risk, it seems like its really ur only option...
So the personality changes, is that a Definite or a possibility Chippy? And did she give u a percentage of the likelihood that it will happen?
Chippy ur soo brave and positive, the positivity comes thru in ur messages, if anyone can beat this it's u!!
Cheers Dee, I think all us fighters are stubborn and we just refuse to take this laying down!!
To be honest Dee I didn't really want to hear any percentages at the time, there was so much other information to try and digest, add to that having my wife in there with me holding my hand after what seemed like an age not seeing her was quite emotional, and I'm not really that kind of bloke normally!!
I really appreciate your messages and the positivity I get from them cant be put into words Dee, but the fact you pretty much had what I've got and you got the all clear, that's the inspiration right there!!
Well I'm a stubborn Taurus bull anyway lol but its amazing how much more stubborn u can become!
Aww Chippy, I'm sure u were a bit overwhelmed, its soo much to take in sometimes, I wrote absolutely everything down every time I spoke to someone so I could process and ask questions if needed. Its the vulnerability too, its like ur at the mercy of something outside ur control so the only thing u can control is how u react to it. And In steps positivity and stubbornness lol.
Thank u Chippy! That means a lot, I'm only too glad to help!
