Hi,
I’ve been reading in Reddit forums about HNC sufferers being prescribed Lidocaine Viscous Solution 2% for pain relief from ulcers and sore throat. It seems to be an essential part of the kit provided in America (called Magic Mouthwash), however it does not seem to be available here in Wales despite being listed on numerous NHS England websites as being used for radiotherapy treatment.
So I was wondering if there is anybody in England or Wales who has been given Lidocaine Viscous Solution 2% & how did you get it? I’m concerned people in Wales are being refused vital treatment.

I wasn’t and managed without and I’m in Wales. I don’t think it’s available in England either. You can buy it online but it’s hugely expensive.

Could always try your dentist-----Magic Mouthwash | Colgate®. I used Ultra Chloraseptic spray when things were rough, gave me some respite from pain when eating was difficult.

Ah my apologies.
found numerous posts in this forum about people in England receiving it
We talked about this in this forum some time ago. Somebody had bought some from the USA but we never heard back about it.
I’ll tag Rara2
Her husband had it.
I think one of the main reasons we don’t get it here is that most of us get stomach tubes and don’t need to swallow.
I was treated in Swansea and had an NG tube after three weeks.

Yes, but as your post points out forms of magic mouthwash are available on NHS prescription
I was simply hoping you had found a U.K. source.

when I was going through my treatment, I mentioned that and liquid lidocaine to my radiologist.. a definite no no, as the anaesthetic could numb the throat bits and they end up not doing what they should be doing.. leading to a possible danger of aspiration and biting of your tongue..

I used Ultra chloraseptic post treatment for help with eating and intermittent pain, bought a little plastic spray bottle to use with Difflam for the same.
