Hi, I’m 58 years old and this Friday I am having an ultrasound/biopsy following an MRI scan and Barium swallow. The MRI showed the presence of several lymph nodes which they want to biopsy now. I also will be having a cat scan next Monday.
my consultant says the presence of the lymph nodes raises the possibility of cancer at work. Having the feelings that I have right now led me to this group.
my symptoms Started at the end of January with an uncomfortable feeling in my throat which appear to be an abnormality of my tongue at the base which has some roughage on it.
i currently have no other symptons, I.e night sweats, loss of weight, difficulty in swallowing. I am married with a wonderful little boy aged 10. I need to be strong for them.
Sorry that you’re here but it sounds as if things are on the right track. My advice is to keep busy and put your trust in your team who do this stuff every day.
There's lots of help here and should you have bad news there are lots of happy survivors here too.
Stay off Google there’s a lot of inaccurate and out of date information there.
Come back here when you know more and good luck

Thanks for replying, wasn’t sure if I was in the right place. You’re right about google and like so many others I fell for the temptation despite warnings from my wife. She knows I’m an awful patient and that’s why she hadn’t let me see the letter saying raised possibilities of cancer at work. My mother died at the age of 57 albeit ovarian cancer and it has played on my mind ever since. I said to my wife that once I’d got past 57 I’m sure I’ll be less anxious.
From what I have read on here so far, you are all quite amazing individuals and I wish you all the best.
thank you once again.

Hi again. Can you tell me if it is normal practice to have a cns give me a call to see if I have any questions prior to my cat scan and ultrasound/biopsy?
I thought they are present when diagnosis is confirmed. I’m starting to think they know more than they have said in my letter.
Good evening Stef61, this phone call is just in case you are worried about anything about the scan and biopsy, they will not know if its cancer until they get the biopsy results. I know these are worrying times as we have all been through the same process, these scans and test are just to make sure they have covered every angle before giving a diagnosis. Lets hope it is nothing to worry about and the biopsy comes back clear. All the best for your scan and biopsy next week , best wishes.
Chris
Hi Stef61
Don’t read to much into it
Its probably because you are going into hospital amidst all this virus stuff.
It’s likely you might have to go on your own

Thank you Chris. It is all very frustrating and it doesn’t help that I’m a worrier but I am trying to find as many positives as possible. If it weren’t for the fact that I know there is an abnormality on one side of my tongue which the consultant had seen with the camera, I am not experiencing any other kind of symptons that would send alarm bells ringing.
I thought that I’d been short changed having been diagnosed with arthritis when I was 45 and diverticulitis not long after but having read about yourself and others on here, I not sure what I have to complain about. My little boy who is 10 and who has remarkable hearing when he shouldn’t have (downside of living in a two bed apartment) has categorically stated that I have nothing seriously wrong with me!
who can argue with a 10 year old who knows better than everyone else lol.
Take care Chris.
kind regards
stef
Many people come to these sites hoping to find someone who has experienced the very same symptoms as them.
This could give them confidence in knowing there not imagining there particular symptons when dealing with doctors.
I myself developed very bad hayfever 3 years before my diagnosis. I never imagined this was a symptom until after treatment it completely disappeared. The docs disagreed but this was very real for me. I think it would help if everyone thinks back and posts there off grid personal symptons which could help others.
