Hi, my husband successfully completed chemo radiotherapy 19 months ago now and is doing really well considering what he has been through. I still regularly check in on this forum as it got us through a very tough time and the help and support is invaluable. I am just reaching out again (I made the mistake of googling!) as my husband woke up recently with virtual hearing loss in one ear…the side he had the most treatment on. Has anyone else had any experience of this. Thank you
Hi and welcome back. I have top end hearing loss on my affected side but anything sudden really needs looking at. I’d contact his CNS to get his ENT to check it out.
It’s probably something g simple but best checked.

Yes, I too have hearing loss of the higher tones on the treatment side too. I now wear hearing aids. Mine wasn't too bad, it's only because we got a sonic insect repeller plugged in and everyone asks what the high pitch tone is that I moticed because I can't hear it. So I went to an audiologist and they said yes, the loss is mild to moderate.
Take care. Hazel x
Hi
Yes unfortunately i had a very similar experience in my ear. It was blocked for a long time after treatment and suddenly released and all was good except the tinnitus that comes with Chemo. Months later over night i had the feeling of fullness in my ear and almost complete hearing loss. This is due to scarring of the Eustachian tube (in my case). Hearing aids work but i'd love the tube to release because hearing tests show id be able to hear ok ish if fluid wasn't trapped in there. Grommets and eustacian tube balloon dilation have all been ruled out in my case for fear of it causing more damage. Although I'd love a second opinion on grommets if anyone else has experienced similar. Consultant say's it could just just infected and nasty and lead to to worse case eardrum being completely damaged.
I'd just suggest getting to the ENT team and seeing a hearing specialist.
Hope it can be resolved
Good evening Bethie1,my husband is now a little over 12mths post treatment, we have been told at some point at the beginning of the journey that the treatment could impact his hearing, about halfway through the treatment ,his hearing started to deteriate, he got a hearing aid offered pretty much on the next appointment. Especially with him back at work, having it,is a big relief. I am with Dani on this, if your hubby is experiencing virtual hearing loss, and he's worried,he should contact his CNS to arrange an appointment with ENT to get it checked. All the best .Fellow wife Mel x
