Hi and thank you for reading my post. I hope you are all coping during this tough times we are enduring on top of the already tough issues you are going through. I am sorry to be asking as I don't know if this is worthwhile asking. I have suffered from anemia due to low iron and mouth ulcers in the past. I have had a sore (thought to be an ulcer) on my right tonsil for 3/4 weeks now which has constantly gave me a lump like feeling and a fairly constant achey pain in my ear and pain when swallowing/eating/drinking. In the first 2 weeks I had quite severe pain/numbness in my tongue. I just don't know if this has any links to possible mouth cancer and whether mouth ulcers could be an early sign of anything to come. All the doctors I have seen previously have put it down to low iron (anemia).
I appreciate you reading and any feedback would be great.
thank you
Hello Web09, I don't know the signs of tonsil cancer, ulcer type sores CAN be a sign of mouth cancer if they don't go away and a lump appears but it's NOT always the case so it needs to be checked. If you say you have had problems for the last month then try and see your Dr and tell him your concerns and he/she should refer you to see an E,N,T or Maxillofacial (head and neck ) consultant. I don't know enough about anaemia and what side effects it has. Unfortunately, we cannot say what it is, we can only give advice Wishing you all the best, take care.

Agree with Chris
See if your GP will refer you just for your peace of mind. You might have to wait but a few weeks won’t make much difference.
The other option is to ask for a private referral but be aware that in these Covid times no doctor wants to be looking down throats.
Don’t be downhearted though. Tonsil cancer often shows as a lump in the neck before folk find anything amiss on the tonsil.
Good luck

Hi and welcome
You have found the right place for support and advice regarding cancers in this area of the body. The only advice that I can give is that almost everyone on this forum has had a differing set of symptoms that have led them to get things checked out - so there is nothing definitive that will say you have it or do not EXCEPT for proper clinical tests.
I know it is difficult at the moment, but go and see your GP and get the diagnostic process underway. Insist on it! The stats would suggest that it is more likely that you don't have cancer than you do, but early diagnosis really helps the curative process. Also a definitive yes or no will help your mental state.
Good luck and we've all got our fingers crossed for you. Remember that this forum is very supported and full of great advice as your undertake your journey.
Hi Web09
My dad had anaemia and had the most painful mouth ulcers for over a year so that can be a cause. However, as you are obviously concerned I would definitely speak to your GP and request a referral to ENT. Don't forget to tell your GP about your ear pain too.
Wishing you all the best.
Linda
