Has anyone got lymphedema in the neck area ?

I have a really firm patch under my chin and varying degrees of swelling down my neck. Got the tape and do the exercises. Any advice ?

  • Hi

Sadly I do too. It's not totally solid though. I think mine is from radiotherapy as I didn't have any sign after neck dissection surgery. My consultant told me that it would take a good year to two for surgery swelling etc to go down, so will have to see. I do exercises that I found on google as the virus has got in the way of my clinic helping. I do find my swelling reduces during the day and also after exercises. I am post 5 months last radiotherapy treatment and just keep fingers crossed that lots of attention will help eventually. I did get given a Hereford collar ?? to wear during exercises and that does seem to offer some extra help. I also got physio (suspended for now) to help stretch out my neck and keep movement much better. I found that helpful with reducing a little swelling, perhaps that is something you can look into?

Sorry I can't offer more advice.

  • Hi Cancer mum , i have not experienced it myself so it was lovely that Piya10 has answered, I know there are others on this site who have also experienced this so hopefully they will also give you some great advice. I hope everything else is going ok, best wishes, take care.

  • There are exercises on the web. If you look at profile she has a blog where she put some links recently.
Normally your team would get you to a lymphedema clinic but ............

I had swelling and gently massaged it away taking every opportunity to get in there.
100 strokes on my neck every time I remembered during the day. It took a couple of weeks of constant attention then it was gone.
