I have been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. The tumour is right on the junction of the oesophagus and the stomach. I am having difficulty getting food to pass into my stomach.
My first dose of chemo is tomorrow (9th March), and I am dreading it!
Please keep your fingers crossed for me!
Hi Geoff. My husband has the same thing and has just had his third dose of chemo (of four). It's no picnic but it has to be done. I expect you've been told about the possible side-effects but don't be too alarmed - you are unlikely to get them all! There are lots of people on here who have been through it and their experiences vary quite a bit. Best of luck, fingers will be crossed for you tomorrow - just take it easy in the days that follow.
It seems to vary from person to person. I have been very lucky so far as i have had 4 cycles of chemo/immunotherapy and other than cold sensitivity in my fingers haven't had any side effects.
Aw, bless, thank you! I know exactly what you mean about possible side effects - if you listen to all of them, you truly lose the will to live anyway!
Is your husband going to have an operation to reconstruct the oesophagus? The surgeon has told me that they hope to be able operate after four doses of chemotherapy. We'll see.
Thanks again for your help and sympathy. xx
Thank you, that's good to hear. I hope I am that lucky too. Apart from pain, and difficulty getting food down, I am very fit, so I am going into this in the best possible state, physically and mentally.
Everyone reacts differently to the chemo I was very lucky and had few side effects! Tingly hands legs and feet and of course the loss of hair but was able to eat again after my second cycle so it was a small price to pay ! I wish you well on your journey Tricia x
Aw, bless you Tricia! I'm hoping I will get some relief from the difficulty I am having with getting food and drink down, and possibly some reduction in the pain. Are you having an operation? x
My story is on my profile but I had my operation March last year ! Seems like a age ago now and apart from a few minor alterations to my life such as sleeping sat up life is pretty much back to normal in fact I am fitter now than I was before the surgery. It’s all very frightening at first but stay positive and take one day at a time I was lucky that I had no other health problems and my tumour had not spread T3N0M0 I’m in Bristol and the BRI were fantastic! Due to have my second CT scan and a endoscopy end of April so fingers crossed for that ! X
Was eating and drinking and pooing much different after the surgery please? And did things get back to normal after a time? x
