All quite a shock as an endoscopy in January was thought to reveal inflammation which would settle in 3 to 4 weeks. However they took biopsies which sat on someone’s desk until 3 weeks ago even though it said urgent Carcinoma. Anyway, that’s history. It’s 6cm long and has left me with a narrowing in my gullet of 6mm and now I have a tube, it’s even narrower. I still can’t believe this is happening to me. Things have moved on pretty quickly, 2 CT scans another endoscopy, NJ tube fitted. Kidney test function this week, heart echo. I’m 62, very fit and active, I don’t have time for this full time cancer job
Hi Mvera,
Unfortunately cancer doesn’t really care about how fit or active you are. I was the same when I received my diagnosis in Oct 23 aged 59. On the plus side, your fitness will stand you in good stead for whatever treatment path lies ahead for you. For me, it was chemo-surgery-chemo. Good luck
Cool Blue
Hi Mvere,
It has been sometime since I have been on the forum.
I do agree with Cool Blue, fitness does not matter as cancer takes no prisoners. I am a non smoker and have been very fit allk of my life. I got my cancer in 2022. Had 4 sessions of FLOT then major surgery then 4 sessions of FLOT when some of my strength returned and then 25 sessions of radiotherapy. I also dealt with a blood clot during all of this.
Stay strong and positive and take one step at ta time. I was stage 4 and 1mm away from the cancer breading through my muscle wall.
Treat this as a project, the hardest thing is waiting for results.
I have now been in remission for 3 years so keep fighting
David
Hi, im the same, 62, everyone says i look younger, fit and healthy, still at work climbing scaffolding, in and out of the van etc. Had PET & CT a week ago, no results as yet and I fear the worse. My body just feels very very light, cant sleep as I get up every two hours to have a massive wee ?. I've found inspiration from people on here #coolblue but tend to only look once a week, im going to ring my GI nurse today as, like others, its the waiting thats getting to me. Keep faith in the people who will help you through this as, I am and try stay strong and positive X
