Hi I just wanted to see if other have the same problem I had oesophagus cancer 4 years ago and suffer with the reflux I feel so ill after the attack  is there anyone who has the same problem that could help me also the dimping but I call it my moment I can handle that they last  half a hour then I back to myself but it’s the reflux is another thing

  • Hi Gin,

It might be useful to tell us what steps you are already taking to avoid reflux? No point in people suggesting things that you are already trying. It’s all a bit trial and error for each individual to find what works best for them and, even with that, I don’t think it ever goes away completely.

  • HI

Are you taking esmeprozole? or anything else to help?

Do you sleep sitting up as attacks can be worse when lying down?

  • Thank you for replying I am just taking aprozole at the moment in the murnings I do tend to snack at night time sometime  ok then another I’m not I suppose I do t help myself but don’t get it wen I’m ok sometimes and another not if ypu know what I mean  I sleep sitting up with do im not flat     after reading some forem  last night I took some gavaston before I went to bed and slept on my left side  I also have my moment but they call it dumping I can cope with them but it’s the reflux I feel so poorly the nxt day  it’s nice to know if u or anybody goes through the same

  • Hi there thank you for replying  yes I take 2 in the murnings and yes I have a bed that I can lift up to get comfty  havnt layed flat for 4 years.

  • I still have cancer but no symptoms.

So the risk: benefit of medications may be different for me than it is for you.

I take UP TO 80mg omeprazole per day  (split into 2 doses of 40mg morning and evening). This is the maximum dose. And not advised for long time use. If I forget to take this or try and bring the dose down I have break through reflux.

My point being. There may be scope under medical supervision to increase your dose when the reflux is particularly bad.  I would ask your GP’s advice.

  • Hi,

I’m on Lansoperazol 30mg twice a day. I frequently don’t take my morning pill if I don’t feel that I need it but never forego my bedtime tablet. I sleep on my right side with a couple of pillows as I find I am more likely to suffer from reflux if I accidentally move onto my left side. I try to avoid eating after 9pm and there are certain foods that I avoid in the evenings (e.g. flavoured crisps, too much chocolate). As I mentioned, I am not completely free from reflux incidents but the frequency and severity have both definitely diminished over time (almost 2 yrs post surgery).
