My husband has just completed his 4th FLOT over 8 weeks, we have been to see surgeon and been told the surgery is major, removing section of oesophageal cancer and then reattaching the stomach to it again, lung deflated, rib to be cracked it’s so scary, just been reading about this surgery and it’s risks and results going forward and it’s terrifying as so much can go wrong, is there anyone who has had it done and we can chat with?
Got my surgery next week Tuesday, my mum had it done five years ago , stay positive everything will be fine. Mum was 73 and we lost her as hers come back , she couldn't finish her chemo after her oand a couple of years after she got brain tumours I looked after her till she passed . I'm 49 and I wouldn't of even gone to hospital if mum hadn't have had it so guess she was nudging me from up th
e x I finished my chemo 9 weeks ago and I can't wait to have this done now the waiting as kept me overthinking but I'm staying positive x I wish your husband all the best ...yous av got this
I had my surgery 12 weeks ago and feeling great !! I know it sounds scary but you will be in good hands please PM me if you want to chat !
Hello, thank you for your message, oh my it’s been tough for you hasn’t it and so sorry for the loss of your mum. It’s all very hard to hear other people’s feelings but you will get through this, are positive which is something my husband isn’t he’s always thinking of the worst, nothing will be normal, can’t eat, drink etc and it’s hard to respond to him as it’s kind of true. Sending you h
and will be thinking of you on Tuesday x
Hello so glad to hear 12 weeks in you are doing great, we were told Tuesday that he has a small area on his lung also which knocked us for six and has sent me backwards! I’d love to chat more unsure how to PM you ( but I’ll figure it out)
Yes would love to chat more but unsure how to PM you? I’ve been reading about the surgery and it reads terrifying the risks seem endless and am trying to keep strong for him but know if he spoke with someone who had gone through it may help, he’s had 3 lots of biopsies and they were all inconclusive so it makes it hard as really other than visually they haven’t confirmed it as cancer so that’s messing with his head, we found out Tuesday that he’s got a 1 cm section on his lung now also which has panicked him more, so waiting to hear from surgeon next week as he’s pretty sure hopefully that the lung team will say it’ll be fine to remove the lung (half) whilst doing the surgery as luckily the king on the they go in!
Thanks for your kind words . Think beyond the can't eat can't drink bit, it can always be worse , while we have operations planned and more chemo there is hope , positively is key , my mum was a stoic even when she found out she was terminal she kept some kind of positively for us , unbelievable how us humans deal with stuff when there is no hope but you've got to rally together whatever your situation x ofcourse there's fear but your love will carry each other
You are so true, the human spirit is so strong and through all situations we seem to find a hidden strength that we can use to get us through down days and dark thoughts, we have a fantastic family support system and our grown children and our 6 grandchildren keep us smiling, my husband is 58 and I’m 59 in August, married 37 years 17th July so will plan a family gathering before surgery date which is 21st July x again sending you hugs x
