My husband has just completed his 4th FLOT over 8 weeks, we have been to see surgeon and been told the surgery is major, removing section of oesophageal cancer and then reattaching the stomach to it again, lung deflated, rib to be cracked it’s so scary, just been reading about this surgery and it’s risks and results going forward and it’s terrifying as so much can go wrong, is there anyone who has had it done and we can chat with?

  • It’s so hard my op is due a week Wednesday on the 2nd mine is early stage so no chemo just the op. Some days I am positive as I should be reading other people’s journey does help. Other days I’m the same I’ll never be able to lie down to sleep never be able to eat properly all normal thoughts , then I just think it will be different but I’ll be here and I’m going to make the most of it.

  • My mum had it done ,I'm having it done next week I know someone else who's had it done , they do this op a lot so all will be fine , I mean if they give you the full details of any surgery I think it makes you go wow I find wiring a plug tricky lol be positive x positive vibes go such a long way ..everything will be fine

  • I lie down to sleep and eat quite normally ! But I was never one for big meals so it’s no change for me ! But there’s no food group I can’t eat !! My life is no different than before bit more wind but apart from that !!

I think I’m healthier now than before I have lost 4 stone blood pressure is low got rid of my fatty liver ! Still exercise have cut out the booze my own choice so feel this has done me a favour Blush

  • It’s just such a big surgery and it’s the after that’s the unknown how different will life be but it’s a necessary part of the healing journey, but we are both terrified of it. Glad you are doing it soon and on the other side of surgery.
