New here and just reading through the posts, many are by women about their partners or husbands. Are there any other women out there with oesophageal cancer?
That's excellent. I feel it's unusual to catch it early so well done and good luck. Unfortunately mine was too late however, despite a terrible prognosis post surgery (a year ago) I am leading a very normal life at the moment. It seems to me that everyone has such different experiences, for instance, despite all the information a was given i get hungry, enjoy food and have not really had to modify my diet.
Sadly yes there are, but we’re strong and determined that’s for sure. You will get so much help on here, questions will be answered honestly and it certainly helped me so much knowing I wasn’t alone on this journey. 19 months post op now and doing everything I did before with the odd little hurdle here and there thrown in.
I’m the same, my diet is pretty much the same and I do get hungry! I have to try to keep the weight off. The only difference is I don’t eat after 6, I sleep sitting up and have gone off alcohol, but that’s a small price to pay and i consider myself very lucky !
Oh, no! What you're going through now is the worst time because of the unknown. When I was told I was on my own and was shocked beyond belief. The waiting for tests, results and decisions to be made seemed interminable. All I can say is don't be afraid to make use of specialist nurses. You'll never be able to speak to a doctor but the specialist nurses seem to be on your side and I found them very knowledgeable and helpful in guiding me through.
The more I read the more I realise how unusual it is to find it early - I was looking for answers for a host of other symptoms (which now look like a form of IBD) and it was caught incidentally - so l'm sort of lucky and unlucky at the same time.
The waiting is terrible though, so worried it'll get worse while I'm sat here doing nothing
