Hi, my husband is awaiting official diagnosis but has been told he has a tumour at the bottom of his oesophagus that they are pretty sure is cancerous.
He has his meeting on Monday but he is so uncomfortable I was wondering if anyone had any advice. He is unable to eat solids and liquids are hit and miss if they stay down. He has lost so much weight. We’ve called his team and gp and they have said we need to keep doing what we are doing. He is taking paracetamol and oramorph but he can’t get comfy and is barely sleepy. Any ideas would be welcome!
Thanks
Hi
Sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis
I'm surprised his team haven't mentioned fitting a nasal feeding tube or a rig in his stomach so that he can have fluids and protein feeds, that's what they did with my husband, maybe they will talk about it at his next meeting but if they don't it might be worth you mentioning it
Best wishes
Jenny
Hi, I've just been confirmed as having cancer of oesophagus at the bottom where it enters the stomach and have similar problems, however I find that foods like pan o chocolate and McCoys crisps, cheddar and muller rice pots if eaten slowly seem to go down easier than liquidised mulch. Dietician said it's probably due to the high fat level. Salmon and mash with brocoli also digest reasonably well. I'm waiting to see MDT this week for my care plan. Hope this helps your husband
So sorry to hear. It truly isn’t fair! may your health care professionals do their best and may his body do it’s best during this challenge!
