I was diagnosed with OC early last year. Had first round of chem followed by surgery to remove the oesophagi in August. After a few week to build strength I had round 2 of chemo. I have had 2 scans since surgery and thankfully clear. Always try to look on the positive side of life and think this helped me through. Had a few laughs doing chemo as we are the ones that can joke about it. Not all plain sailing. I have dumping issues like most and am on antibiotics as I have SIBO following surgery. Best advice keep as active as possible, a stronger body will help you cope with the treatment, I’m 67 male by the way. Happy to talk about my experience if I can help anyone.

  • thank you vic666, was there any other option or was it always just chemo and surgery, thank you, just in the process of trying to look at the options, thank you

  • Hi.when I got my diagnosis I was told that the chemo and surgery were the gold standard and there was little conversation of alternatives. I did quite a bit of research after this and generally I found that most “experts “ recommended the same.

  • Kinda depends. Surgery was not an option for me. Turned out immuno/chemo was. Don’t think there’s such a thing as ‘Gold Standard.’
