  • Hi

I totally agree with others about speaking to the dietitian mine had a lot of ideas which I hadn’t thought of

I can only give my experience but I was told by me GP (who used to be a bowel surgeon), nothing is off the table eat whatever you can.  It’s not so important to eat healthy more to get food in.  With regards dumping this was really bad for me especially when on chemo but is starting to ease a bit now, 4 months after post op chemo finished. I find sweet things can bring it on, foods high in fibre and carbohydrates such as pasta. If it continues he may be offered a test to see if he needs to take medication to help.

I stick to 3 main, albeit smaller, meals a day and then have snacks in between such as some fruit, crisps such as wotsits, biscuits, soup, nuts, mini cheddars, ice cream, yogurt etc.

I also find drinking hard at times as I feel full.  I now make sure I have at least two cups of tea before breakfast and just try to keep having little drinks when I can.  If I know I need to drink I was told to prioritise this over eating so I do and may miss a snack.  I also have at least a pint of water over night as I can fit it in then.

I hope this helps and good luck with the recovery
