Having been told that I have this cancer rocked our world a bit as it was not expected, but as so many people have since said it's treatable that may or may not be the case as I've also been told by the surgeon that it is a stage 4 cancer and is likely to be spreading, I was due to have an appointment for a CT PET SCAN within two weeks but one week has passed by without notification so next week is the only week left to book it (typical NHS) I have registered with Macmillan because of the amount of information they can provide and this specific forum of course. I have found I have great trouble swallowing my daily medication and asked for an urgent face to face appointment with the pharmacist as they now know what type of cancer it is at my surgery and guess what they have sent an appointment for next month and it's only a telephone appointment NOT face to face, typical of my doctor's surgery bloody useless. I am hoping they can change my solid medications from capsules and pill to liquid medication like Oramorph etc. we will have to wait now till the conversation next month now.
Regards
Andrew ward
Sorry to hear this I am one year post surgery were you given a GI nurse to contact as they were my go to rather than trying to get any sense out of a GP surgery. I don’t know what medication you are on but I had a jej feeding tube prior to my surgery and all medication was liquid and syringed through a tube! Best way to get through this is stay positive and take one day at a time wishing you well on your journey! Take care Tricia
Hi. Your best course of action is the one Dibden Doll has given you. Ring up the Upper GI nurse specialist on Monday morning and I am sure you will get help. It's a worrying time when you are first diagnosed and perhaps difficult to get to grips with the hospital systems. Hope all goes well for you.
Hi Andrew and welcome (if that's the right term) to the group. I'm confused as to why you've already had a meeting with your surgeon if you haven't even had any scans to determine your status. The usual pathway is doctor's appointment followed by endoscopy which should happen within 2 weeks of referral. If the biopsies suggest cancer you would then go for CT and PETscans which will show where the cancer is and if it's treatable or curable.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
