Hi everyone.

I'm going for surgery on 6th December. I take prescription meds which are very important. I will not be able to take them in pill form straight away & hope to get them in liquid form. Has anyone else been in this situation. There must be someone out there who had this concern as there are loads of people taking reguar medicines. Someone please reply as I'm worried.

  • Hi ya,

I am wondering whether it is worth having a conversation with your regular pharmacist as to what of your medications are available in liquid form? Then once you know you can have a discussion with your Oncologist or Doctor as to what alternative liquid medications there are available that may be used in place of your normal medicaiton.

I am sorry I can't help further but maybe asking the experts in this field is the best suggestion.

  • Hi,

My wife has to take medication for a couple of other conditions, and was on an nasogastric feeding tube for several months before her Ivor Lewis operation, and on a jejumostomy feeding tube for about six weeks thereafter.

Some of her medication was changed to liquid form; and some of it we crushed (using a pill crusher) and injected it in solution via the tubes.

Summary: there will be no problem taking your meds - so please don't get concerned about it. Clearly, though, speak to your medical team to confirm the best approach for your particular meds - they will help you make whatever arrangements are necessary.
