I’ve been diagnosed with advanced oesophageal cancer. It has spread to at least two lymph nodes and my liver. It was quite a shock but I was advised to see a private oncologist which I am doing tomorrow. I was given the impression that nothing can be done to cure it but that maybe he can offer me some palliative treatment to slow it down. I’m finding it very difficult to eat. One day something’s fine and the next it isn’t. I am 77 years old so I guess I have had good luck until now. I’ve never been in a position when’re I ´ce had to try and put on weight. Everyone keeps saying EAT. And I really dread it!
it’s good to find a place where I can find others who can understand and where we can help each other.
Don't give up hope either at one point I could barely manage soup and water without it coming up. With treatment and patience I managed to rebuild my eating over time. Not afraid to admit I balled my eyes out over a jacket potato at Xmas when I managed to eat my first solids in months. Don't push yourself either focus on getting some food in you rather than bulking stuff up and making things thicker.
Again thank you, Vinny! I am doing the sitting up straight while eating and drinking, keeping the glass of water by my side and sipping regularly, now have the protein drinks from my doctor, I will now look I to the juicers. You are a wealth of information!
