Hi all, I just wanted to ask about stents, I have read a few stories about them blocking etc and pain and wanted to ask peoples views. Husband had his PET scan results back (T4a N2 Mx) as we expected its liver, lymph and stomach its spread to. They want to stent him in 7 to 10 days, he is still eating soft foods, super noodles, pasta and sauce, all of the Xmas chocs that are left and to my surprise can still eat doritos! We are awaiting results from the biopsies to decide what chemo he will start hopefully in about 6 weeks. Any info would be very welcome.
Still trying to come to terms with all this as first appointment at docs was only Nov 22nd, he was playing rugby and scoring tries on the 13th! All so very quick.
Hello Lealan
I am sorry to read about your Husbands diagnosis, and can fully understand how difficult things have been for you both in the past few weeks.
I can not give advice in regards to having a stent, I was just wondering whether the health team had given you any guidance on why they are suggesting a stent when your husband is still managing to eat some food?
I ask, because my husband when diagnosed could barely swallow, things were extremely painful for him and even liquid was difficult, but his specialist asked if he could cope for a few more weeks, at least until they knew when treatment would start... Thankfully his biopsies and treatment were quick, and after his first chemo session he was already drinking better, within a fortnight he was eating again...

Thankyou so much for your reply, I have just sat and read your blog. I don't know that I would be strong enough to document the ups and downs as you have but it has been very good to read. I hope my husband stays as positive as yours and that I stay as strong as you. We have our first on line appointment with the oncologist Tuesday so will ask her with regards to why the stent as he is still tolerating soft food. Thankyou again x
I decide to document the journey because when Dal was first diagnosed there was not too many "current" blogs on OC and I had desperately needed something to give me hope.
I am glad that it has been good for you, and I do hope that you have a positive conversation with the oncologist.
Thinking of you both
