Hi, my 55 year-old partner was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer which has spread to his liver.  He has up to a year and I want to try to make whatever time he has left the best I possibly can.  It's been horrible watching him go from the strong, independent man he was to what he is now in a matter of months.  His first round of chemo controlled the tumour on his oesophagus but the one on his liver doubled in size.  He's just had a stent fitted but is struggling to eat and with pain. Thanks for 'listening'.

    Hi,

may I ask what medications your partner is on?

I may have a few good answers for quality of life.

    Regards ,

    Graeme.

  • Hello CrazyCatLady

Welcome to the forum, as much as I know you would prefer to be anywhere but here, I hope you will find the support and experience here which may help you and your partner over the coming months and more.

I am so sorry to read that your partner was diagnosed stage 4 oesophageal cancer, and that it has spread to the liver, which was then further agitated by the first chemotherapy treatment. You do not mention whether he will be having more chemo, or if alternative treatment has been offered,

I have read that many struggle initially when the stent is fitted, it must be extremely uncomfortable, my husband has been fortunate not to have to have a stent. He was diagnosed just under a year ago, with secondaries in his liver, lungs and lymph nodes, without treatment his prognosis was extremely poor, but with treatment, although the normal average is just over a year, he has reacted so well, with treatment and diet change that we hope he will outlive the prognosis by many years, he is having chemotherapy and immunotherapy every two weeks and apart from a two week break over Xmas he has had this every fortnight since May 17th 2020.

I do hope your partner begins to respond more positively to what ever treatment is offered.

Should you like to read the blog we have written, the start can be found here ... there may be some positives or encouragement that will help you both, there are others who have blogs or stories and hopefully they too will be along to share their experience and hopefully encourage you to feel that you are not alone, going through this.

    Good luck to you both
