My Dad has now been in hospital 5 weeks as unable to keep food/drinks down. Last year had chemo, radiotherapy before removal of oesophageal cancer successfully- part stomach and oesophagus removed. All went well, had to have stent placed in November due to restrictive scar tissue to widen. Got chest infection before Christmas and 6 weeks ago every bit of food or drink comes back up. They have removed stent but still the same. Dad now on iv fluids and MG feed. Dr’s seem to be at a loss and very very slow with any change. Has anyone else had same issues? Thanks

  • Hello CC, I'm sorry to read about your Dad's struggle. I hope his problem is resolved quickly. My husband is on a different treatment pathway but I just wanted to send you my virtual support.

  • Thank you Lorraine and wishing your husband all the very best.

  • Hi CC. Sorry to hear about your Dad's struggles. I presume your dad has been given CT scans whilst drinking water. This seems to be the normal detection method for determining whether there is leakage around the suture/stapling  I know several people  including myself who had that problem and the symptoms of that are that you throw everything up in the manner you describe. However this normally gets picked up quickly by the hospital team albeit that the repair time can be several weeks.. It might be worth asking if they have found anything of that nature. It seems strange that they do not have a diagnosis. Also, like your father I had a chest infection and this again took several weeks to clear. I do hope he improves quickly.

  • I had a chest infection and they found two clots on my lungs. I was 10 days in hospital but took me a while to recover.  My breathing is still effected although mildly Hope they get to the bottom of what's wrong with your Dad

  • He has had a number of X-rays and scans and camera and they have said all looks fine.

  • I thanks yes all scans appear to be normal and they are happy with

  • Well how quickly things change. My husband is getting a stent fitted as he can hardly swallow and keep anything down. If this continues he won't be able to start 2nd line chemo, which is scheduled for Thursday 27th.
