I had a feeding NJ tube fitted 2 weeks before the end of my chemo radiotherapy I am four weeks post all treatment and feel the tube is stopping me from eating normally, I have what feels like a sore throat constantly and lump at the back of my throat. When can I expect the tube to be removed
Yes it can get uncomfortable for some whilst others seem to tolerate it easily.. I think your question can only be answered by your medical team and they presumably will look for evidence that your tumour has shrunk enough for you to swallow normally. Are you scheduled for a CT scan?
You are no doubt already doing this but just in case. The hospital advised me to sip water as frequently as possible and for the discomfort use calpol via the 10ml injection syringes followed by a good line flush. I was given copious amounts of 10ml syringes and calpol by them for this purpose.
