Has anyone been prescribed PERT tablets post oesophajectomy?

  • Hi. I believe that it's fairly common for patients to be prescribed enzyme replacement medicine to help their body absorb fats post the op. There are previous posts relating to Creon on the site. Some people seem to use them for a short time as I did and others stay on them longer. Depends if your body adjusts easily to the new situation or not. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks Anglars,

This gives us hope, hubby has been struggling to put on any weight and is now 2 years post op. The dieticians don't seem to have helped us very much so armed with this information our next meeting with them may help moving forward. At the moment he is  so thin and always feeling cold and tired. So fingers crossed for the future.

  • There is ( or at least was) a countrywide shortage of Creon. Nutrizyme 22 is the alternative that was available to the pharmacists. I don't know what the current situation is.

  • I found that keeping a journal of what I ate and how I felt really helped me see patterns. On rough days, I’d check in at developmentconnection.net for some simple, encouraging resources that made me feel less alone. It’s not just medical info—they’ve got personal stories and bits that helped me feel a bit more in control, especially when trying to keep weight on felt like a full-time job.
