Hi, my dad is poorly with esophageal cancer. His 2nd time fighting this awful disease and is now on EOL care.
Hoping any with experience of a syringe driver at this stage can share their stories and pros and cons to this?
Also here for support from other people who have gone through this as a family. My mums unwell with cancer too so thought I could relay some positive comments of support back to her to help her get through this as everything is very overwhelming for her at the moment with my Dads illness progressing. So looking for some light amongst the dark for her so she feels less alone.
Thanks all.
I'm sorry that both of your parents have cancer. It's really good that you've reached out. You have a lot to deal with and it can't be easy. I'm glad you've got a good support network. I can't offer any advice on what to expect but just wanted to give you a virtual hug and say to cherish every moment you have with your parents.
Take care x
I agree, Crochetherapy. Make the most of every moment. I don't know what EoL is going to be like for my husband and I'm in no hurry to find out. However, some people on here are supporting partners at that stage, so may be able to advise you.
I'm glad you have a great support network at this difficult time x
im so sorry to hear of this, at a young age and faced with this is a lot. My advice? Spend as much time as you can with them. Keep things as “normal” as can be, journal if possible and remember to give yourself time to process everything. Have you considered counselling to offload your thoughts? Xxx
Im so sorry your dad is EOL after already fighting this horrible disease once before.
Im a Registered Manager for domiciliary care and work with EOL customers. From my experience a syringe driver is usually the last stages. It does help with pain and to keep people calm, if they are suffering with hallucinations and get agitated.
Usually I've found if a syringe driver is being used then it's usually to keep them comfortable but they are just usually sleeping.
Sending love and my thoughts are with you all.
Kayleigh x
