Hi everyone,

I hope you are all ok. I want to thank you all for all the support and guidance you have given me on this horrible journey. We now have palliative care and hospice support. He is trying to keep the pain under control and getting nutrients through the drinks Ensure plus and fortisips by the dietician. The problem is they just keep making him sick and then he is scared to drink them. He has no energy and unable to keep anything down. Does anyone have any advice with these drinks? I am so worried he is getting nothing inside him. Thank you x

  • I was on the Ensure Jus drinks before having the NG tube fitted.  They are very thick and the only way I could drink them was to add a bit of water (and sometimes ice) and sip slowly through a straw.  The dietician may have some other suggestions.  Such a difficult time for you both. Take care. Beverley

  • It sounds like it would be better to have some sort of feeding tube. I'm sorry to read how difficult it has become.

    Sending love xxx

  • Hi

i am on palliative care also I cannot eat food at all now I drink fortisip drinks and if I can’t drink the full bottle I drink what I can better than nothing.  I have got anti sickness tablets at home for when I start feeling sick so far l haven’t had any sickness.fingers crossed. I am getting weaker but I keep my mind active even if it’s only listening to an audio book. I sleep most of the day and no longer go out but I am having a stent put in on Monday it’s to help with the swallowing I hope this will help xx

  • My husband is also on palliative care. He used to have complan, but it has now changed to the Aymes drinks, which is made up with full fat milk. He only seems to manage to drink 1 a day, which is better than nothing, and half a bowl of soup. The weight is falling off him still, now weighs 8st 9lbs. He has felt sick but only brings up bile. The anti sickness does help. He is also getting weaker, but like you keeps his mind active, with his model building. He has a man cave, but struggles to get there, these days, so does the modelling in the house. District nurse mentioned a peg, the other day, he has refused to have a stent, as did not want another procedure. He feels all of the intervention would only delay the inevitable. His decision as hard as it is for me to hear. Hope the stent works for you.
