Hello,

i hope all is as well as it can be with you.

I had sucessful Ivor Lewis op earlier this year , 4 pre op FLOT chemo and 4 post op FLOT , and i now realise that whilst overweight I was fitter than I thought I was and that helped a lot with my recovery.

My muscle tone is gone and Im down 13kg , but my daily walking distance is improving and eating is getting better and my overall health is good for a 60+ male.

my question is I would like to start a few easy push ups / squats etc soon and my last FLOT chemo was in early Oct , are there any views on ligaments softening or muscles responding poorly to being worked ?

thanks

  • Hi

Because of the type of operation we've had I would concentrate on cardio first and would leave the pectorals, stomach and lat exercises to last! I'm 8 weeks post op and yesterday managed to do a gentle jog for about a quarter of a mile for the first time. You're 100% correct about pre-treatment fitness as I was uber fit prior to diagnosis but like you have lost about two stones and a lot of muscle mass in the process.

  • Hi Shimmie, I’m 6 years post op I currently spend 3-4 hours a week at the gym and have to pass a fitness test for my job.
when I returned back to work I started slow and often, I started of doing Pilates classes with our on site fitness team over time it was combined with cardio (treadmill bike and ski machine doing 2 min on 2 mins off switching machine each time and complete 20 minutes overall, then slowly increasing intervals on and decreasing time off.
I also bought a bike and rode every other day slowly increasing mileage and frequency.
    hope this helps.
