After treatment and surgery with mop up chemo we were told no scans unless they feel something is wrong.
Met the surgeon this week after a dilation (for my partner), tho the camera showed the oesophagus is clear he is still being sick and choking and extremely fatigue esp the next day after doing something. the surgeon said he is going to get him a scan of the chest area, now Im worried! I have a terrible fear of it returning and now im worried more as we had been told no follow up scans will be done.
Hi ..I know it’s hard but try to not worry .There could be another reason why your partner is having problems and not necessarily a recurrence…It’s what we all dread after the trauma of the treatment process so it’s perfectly understandable how you feel …After my husbands treatment finished we vowed we wouldn’t worry about the possibility of a recurrence..We just live in the now and take it day by day and hope for the best ..I’m assuming your partner went down the same treatment route as my husband …Chemo -surgery -adjuvant chemo ? ..If he did then we were told the risk of a recurrence is very small ..not impossible but very small …I would definitely try and remain positive and wait for the outcome of the chest scan …If you can have a chat with your partner’s specialist nurse ..they. may be able to explain things better to you and maybe alleviate some of your fears ….Hope all goes well with the scan and your partner’s situation improves very soon …regards J
Hi , I agree with JPM, please don't worry every day, it would be normal that scanning takes place every 3 months for 12 months followed by a meeting with the Consultant or in my case Oncologist, my scans served for both check-ups for my different Cancers
Also at the moment with the shortage of Radiologists the results of the scan are sometimes delayed so don't be over worried with that either
I'm still clear and pressing on
Both take care
Tony

Thank you Tony glad to hear your doing well.
Hopefully this will be the same case. The choking and vomiting at 4am in the morning this morning is what worries me hopefully it will ease off at some stage, maybe the scan will actually calm my nerves once its done anyway.
Hi sorry to hear that what position is he lying in bed as he will find raised is best
I have just invested in an electric adjustable bed as mine will be ongoing due to having no voicebox so any reflux can come straight up without control
All good fun

He basically sits up very uncomfortable each night but it seems to be the best way however he is still choking..I guess we just need to wait on the scan and see what they can advise from there. If its going to be a life long thing I may need to invest in one of them beds also.
Thnks again & all he best in your journey
Is he taking any anti acid tablets as I take one each morning and normally one at bedtime. Just make sure it’s mentioned to either the nurses or Consultants as he has no need to suffer it
Take care
