Liver Biopsy for Immunotherapy Options?

My love has liver and lung mets in addition to primary adenocarcinoma. One doctor told us no liver biopsy is necessary, while another suggested we do a liver biopsy with the possibility of identifying different genes that could respond to immunotherapy. Has anyone had a liver biopsy or any input on this? Thank you.

  • Hi Sunlove

All I can say is that my husband never had a liver biopsy, he, like your love has liver and lung mets.

Every doctor is different but I imagine it is the oncologist who masters in Specialist Cancer treatment is the best person to listen to .

  • Hi,  when they do tests on  a biopsy they are identifying whether you have  a her2  protein  gene,  as this gene promotes the growth of cancer and your doctor would then see what is the best targeted treatment/ medication .  A pd1 is also a protein  gene and if your levels are between 10  -100 you could have immunotherapy treatment it's when your immune system recognises cancerous cells and fights them off. Unfortunately  all these test seem to take weeks for results to come back but once you start a cancer programme you cannot add treatments on so that's why you have to wait for all the results to come back to the doctors so they can decide  what they think would be the best option for the paitent
